Rickettsia slovaca Infection in Humans, Portugal

چکیده
Fifteen years after the initial detection of Rickettsia slovaca in ticks in Portugal, 3 autochthonous cases of R. slovaca infection were diagnosed in humans. All patients had an eschar on the scalp and lymphadenopathy; 2 patients had facial edema. R. slovaca infection was confirmed by serologic testing, culture, and PCR.

R. helvetica (5), R. slovaca (6), and R. felis (7). The serologic findings indicated antibodies at a higher level to R. aeschlimannii than to other tested species. R. aeschlimannii is phylogenetically distant from R. conorii but is closely related to R. rhipicephali and R. montanensis, which have never been described as human pathogens. This patient appeared to have a typical case of R. conorii...

of the Rickettsia spp. we identifi ed. As shown (2), multilocus analysis with ompA–ompB sequences was highly informative about the phylogenetic relationship between Rickettsia spp. and R. conorii strains (Figure, panel B). In Sicily, R. conorii Malish strain has been characterized in MSF patients (4), and R. slovaca DNA was identifi ed in ixodid ticks (5). However, to our knowledge, R. slovaca ...
متن کاملSpotless rickettsiosis caused by Rickettsia slovaca and associated with Dermacentor ticks.
The pathogenic role of Rickettsia slovaca was first demonstrated in 1997 in a patient who presented with a single inoculation lesion of the scalp and enlarged cervical lymph nodes after receiving a bite from a Dermacentor tick. Subsequently, we evaluated the occurrence of R. slovaca infections among patients living in France and Hungary who presented with these symptoms. R. slovaca infections w...

Rickettsia slovaca is a tick-borne human pathogen that is associated with scalp eschars and neck lymphadenopathy known as tick-borne lymphadenopathy (TIBOLA) or Dermacentor-borne necrosis erythema and lymphadenopathy (DEBONEL). Originally, R. slovaca was described in Eastern Europe, but since recognition of its pathogenicity, human cases have been reported throughout Europe. European vertebrate...
